Derek T. Booker
Homicide Detective
Derek Tyler Booker
Derek Tyler Booker was always a scrapper. Born in Bay City he was one of MANY slumkids Cursed to live outside the glamour of the cities Business districts. Too poor for the suburbs and cursed with being born into the wrong family. He had no choice but to sign up with a local gang. Booker was seconds from being another statistic, when he was saved by his best friend who sacrificed himself, and took SEVERAL bullets for Booker after a car jacking gone wrong. Booker managed to escape by hiding in a nearby apartment complex. But the fact that his friend had taken the total blame for their crime in death tore him apart. Booker signed up for the Military in hopes for a quick deployment. Turns out, the streets of another country were the same. Slum rats know the slums no matter the country. Things were going well for Booker. Steady pay, see the world. Even got his Unit wings for the air raids he got in tattooed on his neck. He was due for a cushy career until he was set to take a fall. You would think that the US government getting involved with coup d'etats in Central America was an early 20th century thing. Well its still alive in the 22nd century, and Booker paid the price. A botched communication here, a seemingly coincidental "ghost order" that never officially existed, and you take a perfectly good commando, and you make him the cause of an insurgency in a Latin country. In "honor" of his service. Booker was slapped with a dishonorable discharge and sent home packing. When an old military buddy hits him up about working in law enforcement however... he practically jumps at the chance. Now here he is.. homicide detective for some off shoot branch of the police meant to handle paranormal crimes.....
Story info
Bay City is a massive Oceanside metropolis that is heralded as the mecca of science. It was here that the genetic markers in the unmapped portions of the human genome revealed the organic blueprints to Elven, Orcish, along with vampirism, lycanthropy, and magical ancestry. It was here, that the FIRST explosive jumps into human evolution were made through the research of cybernetics. Here, where humanity raised philosophical questions no one else dared to ask; "Does a vampire deserve human rights? Does a machine?"In a world where magic and science have largely become one and the same, one has to ask "What makes you human."The world is locked in a natural arms race, and humanity is just as spiteful, xenophobic and disgusted with the unknown as ever, except now there's a spotlight. In this "progressive metropolis" the world sees its first Task force dedicated to crimes of the paranormal. The ISCU. Inter-species-Crime-Unit.While the Cities Vampire Mayor assures everyone that everything is ok, Werewolf biker gangs terrorize the streets. Androids and Robots alike are fighting for basic civil rights, and Vampiric crime families are openly creating blood farms. Magical artifact trafficking is at an all time high, and as the Vampiric and Elven Elite doll up the city centers, the people under the poverty line are left to rot. This isn't petty class warfare any longer. Its a fight for total control.
